CremationCheck is operated by Copyvisor OÜ, an Estonian private limited company registered under registry code 16023836, with its registered office at Aia tn 5-3, 10111 Tallinn, Estonia. CremationCheck is an independent directory and is not affiliated with a government agency, funeral board or listed provider.

Our Mission

CremationCheck is a free directory that helps American families research public cremation-service listings across all 50 states. We aggregate open directory data and clearly distinguish listings matched to official establishment records from records that still require independent verification.

Our goal is simple: families should be able to identify possible local establishments and request current itemized prices before deciding.

The Problem We Solve

Funeral arrangements are often made under significant time and emotional pressure. Under the FTC Funeral Rule, covered providers must give available price information by telephone when asked and provide a General Price List during in-person arrangements.

CremationCheck organizes public listings so families can identify possible options more quickly. We do not publish provider-specific price lists; exact services and prices must be confirmed directly.

What We Offer

  • Provider Directory: Over 5,000 cremation and funeral service listings across all 50 states, currently sourced from OpenStreetMap contributors. A listing is not an endorsement or proof of current licensing.
  • Price Research: Dated national benchmarks from the NFDA report, presented separately from current local quotations.
  • Regulatory Links: Direct links to state boards so visitors can confirm current licensing and requirements with the responsible authority.
  • Demographic Data: Population and death statistics from the U.S. Census Bureau and the CDC National Center for Health Statistics.
  • Veterans Resources: VA National Cemetery locations from the National Cemetery Administration, where eligible veterans receive free columbarium placement.
  • Pricing Help Requests: Families may submit a request for manual review. Requests are not automatically sent to directory listings and do not guarantee a quotation or response.

Our Data Sources & Methodology

Transparency about where our data comes from is essential, especially for decisions as important as end-of-life services. Here are our primary sources:

  • Provider listings: OpenStreetMap (ODbL license). Current published snapshot date: 2026-08-02.
  • Official registry matches: Active establishment records from 19 state authorities, retained with source URL, record identifier, match method and verification date. Other listings remain source-only.
  • Price benchmark: NFDA 2024 Cremation and Burial Report, citing 2023 GPL research.
  • Population data: 2020 U.S. Census (Decennial PL data via Census API).
  • Death statistics: CDC NCHS Weekly Counts of Deaths by Jurisdiction (2022 data).
  • State authorities: Official state funeral-board or licensing-agency websites linked from state pages. CremationCheck does not currently publish unsourced state-law summaries as definitive legal guidance.
  • VA cemeteries: VA National Cemetery Administration public data.
  • Household income: American Community Survey (ACS) 2022 estimates.

National research benchmarks are not local quotations. Actual prices vary by provider and selected services. Request the current itemized General Price List and its effective date from each establishment.

Editorial Standards

We aim to use clearly identified public and industry sources, but directory details, laws and estimates can become outdated or contain errors. We do not provide medical, legal or financial advice. Visitors should verify provider details, licensing, current regulations and exact prices before making a decision.

How We're Funded

CremationCheck is free for families. At present, submitted requests are reviewed manually and are not automatically transmitted to directory listings. Directory ordering is based on evidence, data completeness, location and historical search signals, not payment.
